Baptism

Baptism

We welcome you and hope that this is a holy and happy experience for you and your entire family. We are excited that you are bringing your child here to St. Elizabeth Seton to receive their first sacrament.

Having your child baptized is a responsibility not to be taken lightly. The Catholic Church has always taught that “Parents are the primary educators in the faith. Together with them, especially in certain cultures, all members of the family play an active part in the education of the younger members.” (General Directory for Catechesis, #255).

All children enrolled in our Student Faith Formation program should be baptized. Older children can also receive instruction and receive the Sacrament of Baptism either as part of the Student Faith Formation Program or as part of the R.C.I.A. Program. Call the Parish Office for more information. Our baptismal preparation is designed to assist you, the parents and godparents, in raising your child in the Catholic Church.

Baptism Information for Parents

The Family of the child should be registered and reside in St. Elizabeth Seton Parish boundaries. If you are a relative of a registered parishioner, you will be required to provide St. Elizabeth Seton with a letter of delegation from your home parish granting us permission to perform the baptism.

Baptismal Preparation Class

Parents are required to attend our Baptismal preparation class or at another parish (proof of attendance is required). If parents have attended a baptismal preparation class within the previous two years in the Diocese of Joliet, they are still encouraged but not required to attend another preparation class. Our Baptismal class is usually held the 3rd Sunday of the month after 10:00 am Mass at 11:15am. Please call the Parish Office to register for this class.

Baptism is celebrated twice per month on Sundays at 1:00 P.M.

For those seeking Baptism as adults or those Baptized in another faith and are interested in learning more about becoming Catholic, click here to learn about our OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) Program.

Please call the Parish Office to make arrangements to attend the Baptismal Meeting held every 3rd Sunday of each month.
