Children’s Liturgy of the Word

childwithbible

Adult leaders present and discuss a children’s version of the Sunday gospel with youngsters during the Sunday liturgy.

Lay presiders are trained to lead Children’s Liturgy of the Word, in order to facilitate understanding of scripture for kindergarteners through pre-Communion second-graders, during the 10 am Sunday Masses.

The children are dismissed as the rest of the assembly prepares to listen to the Word of God. Children and presiders break open the Word in one of the lower level rooms and return to the assembly sometime after the homily and before the offering of the gifts. Jr. high students and older teens assist the presiders as needed.

Lectors / Commentators

ambo1For a few brief moments, the lector has an opportunity to become a storyteller, bringing to the assembly the songs of a poet, the visions of a prophet, or the emotions of an apostle. Lectors usually obtain the reading for the Mass ahead of time in order to properly prepare for this important ministry.

Lectors, those who proclaim the Scriptures, and commentators, those who welcome the assembly and read the prayers of the faithful, typically minister at one Mass every three to four weeks. Each member is both a lector and commentator, and serves in each capacity on an alternating basis. Mass time assignments are also rotated.

The mission of the members of the Music Ministry of St. Elizabeth Seton is to encourage the assembly in song and enhance the prayer life of the community through the beauty and joy of music.  The following groups offer different choices for those who love to praise God through song:

  • Adult Choir,
  • High School Choir,
  • Youth Choir,
  • Instrumental Ensemble

We also wish to extend, once again, an invitation to all parishioners to participate in the Music Ministry. Please consider sharing your musical gifts with our community as a choir member or instrumentalist, in the Adult Choir, High School Choir, Youth Choir, Instrumental Ensemble…no auditions are required to participate.

Art and Environment

Liturgical Calendar

Liturgical Calendar

As the liturgical seasons change, the Art and Enviromnent Committee decorates our Worship Center with flowers, greenery, colored tapestries, the Advent Wreath, the Christmas Crèche, and so on.

Many hands are needed to transform the church for major feasts such as Christmas, Holy Week and Easter! Those with sewing skills are put to good use repairing and creating liturgical cloth. If you have a green thumb, or an artistic eye, then this ministry may be for you.

Altar Server Ministry

altar_server_ministryAltar servers play an important role in our Sunday worship. These young people of our parish assist the priests at Sunday and Holyday Masses.

A server candidate should have some understanding of the Eucharistic liturgy as well as their responsibilities as a server. The server is to model good participation for the assembly.

Lay ministers supervised by an Ordained minister are assigned with the duties of training all new servers. Generally, each server will be scheduled one or more times per month.

Trainings are conducted bi annually and are posted in the bulletin.

An Altar Server’s Prayer

Loving Father, creator of the universe,
You call your people to worship,
to be with You and with one another at Mass.

I thank You for having called me
to assist others in their prayer to You.

May I be worthy of the trust placed in me
and through my example and service
bring others closer to You.

I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ,
who is Lord forever and ever. Amen.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

extraordinaryThe role of an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (Eucharistic Minister) is very important to our parish community. Eucharistic Ministers assist the priest celebrant with the distribution of Communion at Sunday and daily Masses.

Extraordinary Ministers are practicing Catholics who have received the sacrament of Confirmation. Training is provided.

Each minister is scheduled three to four times in a three month period. Appropriate dress is required for all Ministers (i.e. no shorts or flip-flops during the summer months).

Greeter Ministry

These ministers of hospitality perform an essential role at Eucharistic celebrations on weekends, holy days and special occasions. They are responsible for greeting worshippers as they arrive for Mass and giving each person a worship aid (or songsheet), passing the collection baskets, inviting people to bring the gifts to the altar as part of the offertory procession, distributing bulletins to worshippers as they leave Mass and being available to provide assistance to people during Mass.

Greeters are scheduled for their preferred Mass time.
