Harvest Sunday 2012

Harvest Sunday 2012

November 4       Part 1 – Distributing Flyers for Food Drive    2:00 – 4:00 PM
November 11      Part 2 – Collecting Food Donations                    1:00 – 4:30 PM approx.

ALL ARE WELCOME – COME AND HELP US TO FEED THE HUNGRY

WHAT IS IT?

St. Elizabeth Seton joins with five other parishes in the area to collect food for local and Chicago area food pantries. St. Elizabeth Seton typically covers the largest geographic area. Our effort involves over 1,000 people of the parish, more than 50% of whom are teens who work both weekends to promote the event and collect, and sort the food. We need help with unloading, sorting, packing, loading trucks, registration, refreshments and many other tasks. We need willing hands and smiling faces!

PLEASE HELP US!

Please call the R. E. Office: 630-416-1992 and let us know how you would like to help. This is the largest single undertaking at St. Elizabeth Seton and it is exhilarating to be a part of it. Come and experience it. All are welcome!

“Own Your Interview” – March 21 at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish

Learn how to ace your next job interview during March 21 program at St. Thomas the Apostle

Psst! You there! Yeah, you – the job seeker with a hand full of resumes and a heart full of hope that your next interview will result in employment. What if I invited you to a two-hour session that would give you the tools you need to ace any job interview until the day you retire?

Then you’d better mark 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, on your calendar and come hear Lauren Milligan explain how to “Own Your Interview” in the gymnasium of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville. Milligan is head resume expert and job coach at ResuMAYDAY, a one-stop-shop for career management and career development.

Milligan’s presentation will help prepare you for the toughest interview scenarios. Her clients have actually said they can’t wait for their next interview!

In her discussion, Milligan will cover preparing for the interview, keeping focused during the interview, and following up properly once the interview is concluded. She will explain the psychology behind certain questions and staying on track no matter how much an interviewer tries to throw you off your game. Behavioral techniques, a method that most employers are now incorporating into their interview process, also will be thoroughly examined.

A well-known speaker on career-related topics, Milligan has contributed to hundreds of seminars, workshops and tutorials. She also has been a frequent guest on Chicago television and radio where her quick-witted, no-nonsense approach resulted in her own online radio show.

Milligan’s background in recruiting and management is what led her to discover how much she enjoys helping people land the perfect job. Additional information about her approach is on the web site www.ResuMAYDAY.com .

“Own Your Interview” is a free program being sponsored by the St. Thomas the Apostle Job Ministry. For more information about this presentation or the Job Ministry, contact Ben Willingham at (630) 222-5732 or at benwillingham11@gmail.com.

Lenten Giving Project

This past year St. Elizabeth Seton opened its doors to the St. Vincent de Paul Society and was at once embraced by a number of parishioners who volunteered to be trained on proper interviews and visitations for those who sought help with financial needs. The success of the program has been overwhelming. We applaud the team for providing compassionate support during difficult times.

As such, St. Elizabeth Seton’s Lenten Giving project will benefit St. Vincent de Paul’s local, national and international projects. In weeks to come we will be enumerating on these projects. Your generosity will go a long way.

Our custom in the past was to present you with a visual reminder of our Lenten Giving Project. We are again distributing a paper bag with the Giving Project logo as well as including additional information in it regarding the work of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Below is a response given to our St. Vincent DePaul Team from one of their clients.

“With this letter I would like to express my highest gratitude and thank you to Society of St. Vincent de Paul at St. Elizabeth Seton.

I can’t thank you enough for what you have done for me and my family. I am starting new chapter in my life as a single parent and was in need of furniture.  I found out about Society of St. Vincent de Paul through Naperville Cares nonprofit organization, they gave me your phone number and said that I can call and that I might get help from you. I was truly surprised how fast you contacted me and pulled out all the resources to help us out, all the phone calls that you made and all the information that you gathered and all the time that was spent.

I don’t want to sound like one of those polished thank you statements from different websites.  I hope you can really feel my heart reading it.

I felt very shy and embarrassed to ask for help, I felt it would be admitting that I am weak and I am failing somewhere somehow in my life, also letting others know that I need help was very hard for me too.  I just want to say that you made me feel like the part of the family, thank you for understanding and giving the warmth and comfort not judging me and doing everything you can to help us out.  Thank you for your kindness, time, support, great hearts, you are the nicest people I have met.  You made a difference in this hard time that I am going through and for that I will be always grateful.”

Clothing Drive 10/29-30

Clothing Drive by The Society of St Vincent de Paul

In anticipation of The St. Vincent de Paul clothing drive on October 29 & 30, we will hand out plastic bags after Masses October 22-23. Please take one (or more!) home, fill it (or any other box or bag) with usable clothing and small household items, and return it October 29-30 to the St Vincent de Paul truck in our parking lot.

Your donation of gently used clothing and household goods go to the poor and needy and also help support St. Vincent de Paul thrift stores which fund charitable programs that help the poor. Some of our Society’s expenses are reimbursed from thrift store proceeds. If you have a large donation you can arrange a pick up by calling 630-231-4658.

Since our inception in May the SES chapter has distributed $6349.61 to the needy within our parish boundaries!!

Whatsoever you do to the least of my people that you do unto me.”
(Matthew 25:40)

AN INTRODUCTION AND INVITATION

“There are many sufferings to heal. Christ stumbles through our streets in the person of so many poor who are hungry, thrown out of their miserable lodgings because of sickness and destitution. Christ has no home! And we who have the good fortune to have one and have food to satisfy our hunger, what are we doing about it?”

St. Alberto Hurtado, SJ

LinkedIn Light

Join two experts for “LinkedIn Light,” a two-hour session that will explain and demonstrate how job seekers can use this fabulous social networking site to their advantage in finding employment at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, in the gymnasium of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville.

Larry New, senior network engineer at TCS Education System, and David Rahn, director of information technology at the Chicago Campus, will also outline what job seekers could do and what they should do to use LinkedIn most successfully. They will use live LinkedIn sessions to illustrate their demonstrations.

Rare among professionals in that he can communicate technical topics in an easily understandable manner, New relies on his expertise that extends across a broad range of networking and telecommunications systems and technologies. These include LAN, WAN, video, audio and TCP/IP networking. New has worked for a variety of major corporations in the area. Among these are Amoco, BP, MCI, WorldCom, Armour-Eckrich Meats, INEOS, Chicago Bridge and Iron, McDonalds and The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.

Rahn’s specialty is focusing technology teams on resolving business issues and implementing cost-effective, technology-based solutions for companies in a wide variety of industries. His extensive career in information technology management positions includes working with capital goods manufacturing, money center banking, process manufacturing, systems integration and consulting, legal services, government services and higher education.
