Reconciliation is a sacrament that requires a fundamental understanding of right and wrong. This sacrament celebrates the continual forgiveness that God extends to us. The focus is on God’s mercy and willingness to always forgive us. It is through the power of the Holy Spirit that we are moved to recognize our sinfulness, to express our sorrow, and to ask for God’s forgiveness.
In second grade, the students will come together to receive the sacrament at a First Reconciliation service. It is the norm that a child needs to be in the Religious Education program for one year before he/she is able to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
There is a program for older children who have yet to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This provision includes a period of study followed by reception of the sacrament, usually in the spring.
