Welcome Letter from our pastor

As the pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish, I welcome you to our parish website and invite you to explore all we have to offer as a faith community. We have made every attempt to make our website user-friendly in order to answer any questions you may have.

Our Parish Mission Statement stresses that we strive to create a loving environment in which people feel welcome to participate and worship. I hope that you will find this to be a friendly and loving community.

St. Elizabeth Seton Parish believes in Stewardship! We strive to recognize that everything we have is a gift from God. All we have falls into three categories, time, talent, and treasure. These gifts of time, talent, and treasure, are to be gratefully received, shared generously, and returned to God with praise. Each of us has much to offer and I ask you to consider volunteering your time and talent for one of our many ministries.

Sincerely in Christ,

Rev. Richard Smith

Vacation Bible School 2013

Miraculous Mission: Catholic In Action
July 22-26, 2013

Join us for a week of fun, prayer and adventure as we slip into spy mode to “train” the children of our Parish at Vacation Bible School (VBS) this year. This year’s teaching will focus on the Heavenly Virtues, related miracles and modern day Saints.

Kindergarten through 5th grade students will journey to five different rooms. Each room will focus on a virtue and will also portray about the miracles of a Holy person that exemplifies this virtue (Jesus/Love, Peter/Faith, Moses/Hope, Joshua/Prudence, and Elijah/Courage). To add to the fun, each room or training ground will represent a different region in the world (tundra, desert, jungle, mountains and underwater/ocean).

Novena of Masses for Fathers’ Day

We will be celebrating a Novena of Masses (Nine Masses) at St. Elizabeth Seton beginning on Father’s Day to be offered for all the Men, living and deceased who have touched us in some way, and whom we want to remember with a series of Masses. For those who have lost Fathers and Grandfathers, it is especially fitting to remember them in this fashion since we cannot each have a Mass intention on Father’s Day and the week following.

Please be thinking of the names you would want included on the altar for those Masses. Envelopes for those names will be in the pews next weekend for your intentions. This is the same type of Novena of Masses we did for Mother’s Day. But this time we remember those men both living and deceased. Please be prepared to give us the names of those men from your lives whom you would like remembered.

Bishop Conlon Initiates the Diocese of Joliet Year of Faith

August 22, 2012

Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Dear Leaders in Catechesis,

Pope Benedict XVI has proclaimed a special Year of Faith for the Catholic Church to begin this October 11, the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council. We all recognize the singular importance of the council in the life of the Church and will want to seize the opportunity the Year of Faith offers to renew our own faith and that of the communities of faith we lead.

Thanks to the work of an ad hoc committee chaired by David Spesia, a comprehensive, yet simple and flexible program has been put together for use in the Diocese of Joliet during the Year of Faith. I expect all parishes to implement the program and request that other Catholic institutions in the diocese modify the program for implementation in their unique circumstances.

The program revolves around fourteen monthly themes, each with suggested activities for parishes, households and individuals. The activities include study, prayer and action. The year will begin with the ringing of church bells throughout the diocese on October 11 and conclude with a major celebration at St. Raymond Nonnatus Cathedral on November 24, 2013.

As much as possible, the activities of the Year of Faith should be integrated into the ordinary programs of parishes, both to maximize the effectiveness of the year and to minimize any extra effort needed to achieve that effectiveness. Mr. Spesia will send out materials both prior to the beginning of the year and throughout the year to assist you. If you need any additional help from him, just ask. Christ Is Our Hope will also contain content related to each month’s theme. At the same time, local creativity is welcome.

Faith is a precious gift. To know Christ, to love him with our whole selves, and to desire to follow him to eternal life gives our lives meaning. Thus, the Year of Faith is also a gift. Please join me in accepting this gift enthusiastically, and use it wisely to assure that faith might shine more brightly in our hearts and in the world around us.

Thank you for the excellent leadership you are already providing among God’s people. May the Lord bless all of us during the Year of Faith.

Most Reverend R. Daniel Conlon

Bishop of Joliet
